Athens, a unified city-county with Clarke County is located in the northeastern part of Georgia. This college town is where the University of Georgia is located. The university, which was founded in the 1800s, was responsible for the city's initial growth. Athens is the fifth largest city in the state of Georgia and in 2009 had an estimated population of 114, 983. Athens is located in a place that was once a trading settlement along the banks of Oconee River, called the Cedar Shoals.
College and Universities
There are three prominent colleges in Athens: the University of Georgia (UGA), the Athens Technical College (ATC) and the Piedmont College.
The University of Georgia is the oldest and the largest of all the state's higher learning institutions and is a public research university. UGA had its first building made from logs. Additional funds for school construction were raised from the money they got by selling the adjacent lots to the college, which was then made to help the town grow. It was 1804 when the first class graduated from the university. Athens by that time consisted of three stores, three homes, and few buildings all facing Broad Street, previously known as the Front Street. Another college was completed in 1806 and was named to honor Benjamin Franklin, Franklin College, which is the University of Georgia and Athens' first stable structure. Currently, the brick building is known as Old College.
Athens Technical College is a public college in Athens offering diplomas, certificates as well as associate degrees in health, business, manufacturing and technical related fields. Piedmont college on the other hand is an institution for private liberal arts founded in 1897 in service to the residents of Appalachian area in the northeast part of the state.
Athens: In & Around Town
Culture is coexisting with students from the university with the creation of a music scene, an art scene and an intellectual environment. The city has lots of unusual treasures. One remarkable aspect is the remains of one of the two double barreled cannons which were produced from the American Civil War. Another is the famous "Tree That Owns Itself," which is currently the original tree's offspring. The city has two public gardens: the State Botanical Garden of Georgia and the University of Georgia Campus Arboretum.
Being a college town, there is an abundance of night life and eateries in Athens. But giving class to the city's night lights are two notable bars: Allen's, which is the oldest bar and the Glob Bar, which ranks third in Esquire magazine's top bars in America in 2007.
A great contribution to the city's blossoming economy is Network Translations, Inc, the manufacturer of PIX firewall, which was then purchased by the Cisco Systems' company. The thousands of jobs created by the presence of the university and local colleges also keep the Athens's economy strong.

EK ARCHITECTURE, PLLC
Today’s skyscrapers do not accommodate ever-changing uses, health, and energy crisis.
onE.GLobe proposes organically grown, flexible, and scalable live-work-play structures which can adapt to any condition.
Stress increases the risk of chronic diseases, the leading cause of death and disability with around 75% (Source 1a, 1b).
Improving human health through a thoughtfully designed environment is as important as energy conservation and carbon sequestration. We can also address all three goals with similar solutions, such as allocating large green areas, water features, and diverse uses in proximity. Nature makes people happier and healthier, and it also absorbs stormwater and can be used for renewable energy production. Therefore, we can achieve resiliency for both environment and society easily together.
Amoeba Fusion aims to empower societies by providing a space for decentralized, innovative start-up communities. onE.GLobe considers the built environment a living, breathing, multiplying organism, evolving in nature with harmony. The structure can grow horizontally and vertically by adding new cores in different directions per each site condition. It creates public plazas shaded and shielded by the building as it grows. Fully self-sufficient structure houses flexible 3D printed dwellings and workspaces surrounded by semi-open garden spaces and atrium. Thirty feet deep floor plates receive daylight from the exterior and atrium and can conveniently be used as open-plan office space. Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems are distributed through modular floor plates, on which 3D printed modules are flexibly plugged in. 3D printed inflatable shells with indoor air cleaning plants house a plug-in kitchen, bedroom, workspace, and bathroom modules. The bridge-connected clusters have decentralized systems with the off-grid micro-grid integrating renewable energy sources and excess energy storage.
Compact layouts provide space for an increasing number of entrepreneurs, making them socialize and inspire near their accommodation. Eliminating corridors in dwelling units with an efficient design and replacing them with the garden space surrounding units achieve this endeavor.
Amoeba Fusion New York is located at a General Commercial Zoning district in NYC with residential and commercial uses. The site currently accommodates six towers. This project explores a more resilient design solution for an innovative, diverse community for the post-pandemic world. Located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood in Manhattan, bordering Hell’s Kitchen with countless restaurants, the site is close to various public transportation, universities, cultural spaces, and businesses, making it ideal for an innovative, creative crowd. Mixed-use commercial and residential buildings are allowed with a floor area bonus of 20% with a public plaza. With tower regulation, there is no minimum lot coverage requirement, and no rule regarding the distribution of floor area allows the tallest buildings in the city.
There are plenty of luxury residential buildings in New York City, but they don’t serve innovative young people and entrepreneurs. Co-living buildings do not provide proper workspaces within the facility. For these reasons, onE.GLobe aims to investigate ways to design long-term live-work-play environments for innovative young people and ease the effects of the future pandemics with its efficient, flexible dwelling units and workspaces surrounded by semi-open garden spaces, atrium, rooftops, public plazas, and wet ponds.
A Home Renovators Guide to Construction Safety
A Home Renovators Guide to Construction Safety
Renovating your home is a whirlwind of emotions. Excitement over the possibilities, confusion over the best way to do things and fear over the potential challenges. With so many aspects to consider and emotions to deal with, one of the most important areas can often be overlooked.
When planning and undertaking a project safety should be one of your primary concerns. It may seem to most of us that site safety is the reserve of big construction companies and big construction firms. After all, as home renovators, we are not under the same level of scrutiny to keep our sites and people safe.
But can safety really be more important in one case than the other? Not when there are people involved. Even if the project will be undertaken completely on your own, it is within your interest to keep your site safe.
Here is why…
Why Safety Matters
The first and most obvious reason why you need to consider safety throughout your home renovation is the potential risk to human health and life. This is especially true when you are working with others such as friends, family or builder who are helping you get the job done. By ensuring a safe site, you are limiting the potential for something to go wrong and for someone to get hurt.
The potential for someone getting hurt on site can also negatively impact the project as a whole. For example, if safety is poor and an injury occurs, this is very likely to increase the time it takes to get the project done. This, in turn, can also lead to increased costs for additional short-notice labour, machine hire and even potential legal costs.
Poor site safety can also lead to the current or new structures being damaged, again leading to more unforeseen time and cost investments.
With all this in mind, undertaking home renovations can seem a daunting task. But with good project management and a few smart safety considerations, we can easily create great buildings and add value to our home.
Good Project Management
The best way to properly manage the safety of your home renovation is byapplying great project management. When you are undertaking your own home renovations, it is your responsibility to correctly manage the project and the safety implications that go along with it.
Doing this will involve creating a project plan ahead of time to ensure you are aware of every step of your renovation and when it is going to happen. A great practice during planning is to undertake a risk assessment at each and every stage. For example, some stages may be more dangerous than others and therefore require further considerations.
Safety First
Project safety should begin before the project even starts and should be built into every action you take during planning and execution.
For example, when picking those who will be supporting you with the project, whether they are builders, friends or family, you should consider their knowledge of best practices and whether they are likely to cause any concern when on site.
When selecting builders, it is worth checking any training or certification they hold to ensure they are qualified and competent in executing the more technical and dangerous tasks.
Large scale home renovations can often take over an entire home. For this reason, it is usually a good idea to put many of your possessions in storage to keep them safe and to clear space for the work to be carried out. Ensuring you schedule clearing and storing your possessions ahead of time will limit the risk of initial work being carried out in a clutteredenvironment.
Keep Dangerous Areas Secure
Once the building work has commenced, keeping all individuals on-site safe is of paramount importance. If planning has been executed properly then this should be as simple as following the plan.
Of course, as the building work progresses, new and unforeseen issues can often occur. Consistent onsite monitoring will also ensure that these are caught and remedied quickly. Schedule regular site ‘safety visits’ to cast your eye over any new potential issues.
It is possible to plan for the unplanned. For example, keeping some temporary mesh fencing on site can be a good way to quickly cordon offunsafe areas to warn site users of the potential danger.
The same mesh fencing can also be used to serve a secondary purpose. Although your project safety planning will likely focus on keeping designated site users safe, you also need to consider the fact that others may wander onto your site uninvited. This is especially common when your site is open to the general public in any way.
By using fencing such as those used for crowd control barriers you set a clear boundary to your site and make it difficult to enter by dubious means. In areas where uninvited individuals are more likely to ‘find’ their way on-site, it may also be worth installing cameras as a deterrent and as a way to notify you of any off-hours activity.
By following the guidelines we have laid out here you can ensure that your home renovation is safe and seamless. By ensuring planning is correctly undertaken, it can ensure unforeseen issues are less likely to occur. Freeing up your time to focus on the bigger picture.

Design ideas for a mid-sized modern partial sun courtyard outdoor sport court in Montreal for summer.
McCabe By Design LLC
This bathroom was designed for two professionals who dedicate themselves to the health and wellness of others. The objective of the project was to be able to practice for themselves, what they preach to their patients.
The original 90” x 162” primary bathroom had so many pain points (would you to look at a toilet when taking a relaxing bath?), that it should have been an easy task to meet their needs and desires, but it was anything but due to structural issues with the home. Several design layouts were considered before it was concluded that the only approach to check the ‘needs’ boxes was to flip the primary fixtures in the room from one end of this long, narrow bathroom to the other and incorporating a wet room.
The needs list included a soaking tub, a spacious shower that accommodated dual showering on business workday morning, more counter space, a bidet toilet, more storage, better lighting, better heat and humidity control, a soothing color pallet and privacy from the neighbors.
An air jet soaking tub (motor concealed in the nearby vented base cabinet) under a new window with privacy glass on the bottom and a clear glass awning window on top checked two boxes. The center drain for the bathing features provides space for two people to shower simultaneously while highlighting the soothing color pallet from every view point in the room. The integrated bidet toilet is an affordable luxury that delivers health and wellness multiples times in a day. The expanded vanity optimized storage while providing more, clutter free countertop space. Utilizing a variety of lighting types, with dimmers, provides the right illumination for every bathroom activity. Lastly, the in-floor heat, toe-kick heater and relocated bathroom exhaust fan over the shower help maintain a consistently comfortable temperature and humidity level in this bathroom transformation.
Guncast
Guncast were asked to create this elegant indoor pool and spa alongside full health suite facilities which the Guncast experts delivered to the highest quality. This stunning pool measures 18 x 6 metres with an extended shallow end to allow for leisure activities such as volleyball or water polo. The pool is fitted with neck massagers for ultimate luxury and the spa is equipped with high capacity hydrojets and allows for comfortable seating of 5 to 7 people. For a truly opulent spa experience, RGB lighting allows for colour changes and mood setting within the water. The steam room is finished with a mosaic and tadelakt tile which is beautifully complemented by the starry sky ceiling lighting. Along the sauna wall is a full-length air lounger for added relaxation, and the sauna is finished in Kelo wood with concealed bench lighting. The pool and spa have premium finishing touches, such as heated loungers, making this the perfect space to unwind.
