About Us

Kern Construction Inc is a state licensed contractor that serves Anna Maria Island by providing local experience and professional results. Kern Construction is a locally owned company run by the two Kern brothers (Mike and Jerry). The guys grew up together in the area, attending Anna Maria Elementary School and exploring the island as little boys. The Kern brothers took over the family business by following in their father's footsteps in becoming master carpenters and have grown the business to include 12 long-term employees to handle the entirety of any project. Proud of their Anna Maria Island roots, Kern Construction use local architects and engineers on all their projects. Kern Construction came highly recommended, from the "old timers" on the island. They delivered a very attractive completed remodel project, close to budget, on my 1965 AMI bungalow. They expanded a small bedroom to a King room and added a 2nd bath plus laundry. Additionally, they also removed several concrete posts in the entrance area to make an open floor plan flow. They also added a living room ceiling/wall ship lap, an outside shower, replaced front door, replaced the floor base trim & various light fixtures. The only negative really was covid's fault as the project was delayed throughout, due to scheduling lapse's from skilled labor shortage.

We cannot say enough good things about Jerry Kern and the entire team at Kern Construction. We hired Kern construction in the spring of 2017 for a total renovation of our 1960's vintage vacation property. Not being local, we were nervous undertaking this project but everyone at Kern was absolutely great to work with, highly professional, always easy to contact when we had questions or wanted to make adjustments to the design plan. We were able to meet with all the subcontractors prior to the start of the project and found them all extremely knowledgable and professional. The cost structure of the project was explained in detail and agreed upon in writing prior to start of work. We are quite particular and we found the quality of workmanship and attention to detail at every stage of the project very high. All in all, we highly recommend Kern Construction and would not hesitate to use them for another project.
