The History of Lady Clare: The idea for a placemat decorated with a colored print was born out of the harsh economic climate of the 1930's. Lady Clare Pigott, the original founder of the company, created the first such place mat in Paris in 1932. She had collected antique prints from dealers in Berlin where her husband was attached to the British Embassy. Having to entertain diplomats during their next posting to the Embassy in Paris, Lady Clare became concerned at the laundry bills she was incurring for the starched white table cloths formality required her to use for dinners.
As a result, she created some place mats from shaped and painted hardboard with a flower print applied to the surface and several coats of lacquer. For her next dinner party she was able to remove the table cloth and lay the table using her placemats. Her friends were most impressed by this simple and attractive way of decorating a dining table. Inevitably the next question was ... can you please make some for me?
From these simple origins a business was born. Our range now includes placemats for formal and casual dining as well as accessories such as waste bins and trays.

These 4" X 4" coasters are handmade by highly trained artisans in Newport, KY. The stone used is a tumbled Botticino marble, quarried in Verona, Italy. Natural variations on the surface are to be expected, and enhance the unique beauty of each tile! Images are hand-printed onto the surface; because the stone is naturally porous, the image is absorbed by the surface of the stone and will never peel or flake off. The included metal coaster stand features a rustic finish, and elevates your coasters. Display your coasters either upright or angled horizontal to lie flat! Coasters are cork backed and designed to protect all furnishings and surfaces.

• To clean: Use damp cloth; do not submerge in water or use abrasive cleaners.
• Intended for indoor use - colors will fade outdoors in prolonged sunlight.

A set of 4 burgundy red and copper Van Gogh glass mosaic coasters adorned with red glitter glass set in a harlequin pattern. A different motivational saying is on each coaster and serves as a great dose of your own personal daily inspiration.

The black grout is sealed with a glossy finish. The backside of each coaster is finished with a cork backing to prevent scratches and is inscribed with the artisan's signature. Each coaster measures approximately 4" H x 4" L x 1/8" W.

Van Gogh glass is special type of stained glass that has been painted on the backside with metallic automotive paint, giving it a mirror like depth. The glitter glass in all of my mosaic coasters are hand-made by me. The dazzle and sparkle of the glitter are a beautiful compliment to the mirror-like qualities of the Van Gogh glass.
