Anthony Casay was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1942. Moving to Mexico City with his family, he started painting at a young age, winning several competitions in local art exhibitions. At seventeen he began hosting, directing and producing children television programs that incorporated his own designs and drawings. At this time, he also started a musical career playing drums in a local band and going on to playing back up for well known American top 40 singing groups of the 50s and 60s. In the United States, he continued his painting and was recognized for his seascapes, selling his artwork across the country. He was admired by many celebrities and had many commissions: the largest being 125 x 65 feet which hangs in the EF Hutton offices in NYC.

When I make art, whatever my medium, I enter an internal world of light and creativity, and I escape the external world of shadow and destruction. While I am painting, I not only live in this light-filled world, I create it. In this sense, I have always made art for myself: to alleviate my own suffering and the painful memories of the war and violence I witnessed, even as a child. Yet although this work is therapeutic for me, my finished pieces also ask the viewer to join me in experiencing these beautiful worlds, and celebrating the triumph of light and color over darkness.
