H. C. Nahigian & Sons

H. C. Nahigian and Sons is an oriental store specializing in handmade oriental rugs in traditional, transitional and contemporary designs from all of the major rug weaving centers around the globe. In addition, the firm carries fine quality carpet in wool and nylon from major U.S. and European mills including offering custom area rugs. This year 2017, the firm celebrates its 102nd year. Dee and Jack Nahigian who are cousins and active owners of H. C. Nahigian and Sons are 3rd generation and have operated the Skokie location for over 50 years. History The Nahigian story begins with Hovsep C. Nahigian opening his first store in the Chicago loop in 1910. Grandfather Nahigian was known throughout the midwest as one of the foremost connoisseurs of Oriental rugs. His first store featured both new and antique fine Persian rugs. His sons, Dee and Jack, both graduates of Northwestern University, joined their father in business in the 1930's. The H. C. Nahigian Company moved to West Chicago Avenue in Chicago and was incorporated in 1934 as H. C. Nahigian and Sons, Inc. During the next thirty years, the company grew to become a well respected oriental rug dealer and carpet retailer. In addition, H. C. Nahigian & Sons became very well known in the Chicagoland area for their rug and carpet cleaning as well as rug restoration services. Then in 1960s Hovsep Nahigian's grandsons, Dee Nahigian Jr. and Jack Nahigian Jr., joined their fathers in the business. In 1964, the company moved to its present location on Golf Road in Skokie where it's located today
