In 2000, we founded A4 Architects with the aim of doing architecture, land planning and interior design that is sustainable, practical, appropriate and delightful. Our practice is broad, ranging from the planning of new urban neighborhoods to the detailing of interior spaces. We can help you with feasibility studies, building design or renovations. One partner consistently manages each project, but our collaboration means we share ideas, inspire one another, and provide back-up when necessary. SUSTAINABILITY for us begins with the very first sketch—the orientation of the building, the design of overhangs and window openings, the use of mass and insulation… APPROPRIATENESS means respect for context—allowing natural and human factors to influence the shape of a building. PRACTICALITY indicates our respect for buildings that work. We live and work in buildings of our own design and understand that good architecture ages gracefully and adapts to change. DELIGHT A cottonwood framed just so in a window, the play of light across a wall, color, texture, materiality, little moments of inspiration—this is what first drew us to architecture and sustains our interest in its craft.
