Olde South Design Studios

I would not recommend this architect. Terminated contract due to inability to provide plans. Poor communication skills. Promises drafts and does not follow through on any of the dates provided by the architect himself.

I don't think I could say enough good things about John and Olde South Design Studios in the space allotted! I am a fellow designer that gets overloaded with work from time to time. John is my go to guy to service my clients when I'm too busy to keep up. I've had him work on several design projects totalling 10,000 square feet or more and he always comes up with great ideas that my clients love. He has a great knowledge of how things need to be drawn to be constructed properly which comes from his many years of experience as a home builder. I will definitely be using Old South Design Studios in the future!

Beginning in mid-July 2011, we initiated a request with John Honea, Olde South Design Studios, to work with us to draw up plans for our new home. Much of our interactions were via phone and e-mail as we were located near Charleston, SC and John was located near Atlanta. Before the end of August, we had met in person in Charleston to go over our "back of an envelope" envisioned design, discussed it in great detail, agreed on many suggestions and contracted for further layout design and builder-ready documents. John was exceptionally patient with us as, during the early drafts of the construction plans, we were on a two month trip in our motor home. Fortunately, with e-mail, internet and cell phones, progress continued. We always felt that he had completely focused on ideas, changes, requests for suggestions each and every time we communicated. By January 2012, we were able to provide "final draft" drawings to three builders to bid on the construction. By March 2012, we selected our builder, and John conferenced us electronically using GoToMeeting so that in real-time, we could make any last minuted adjustments before turning the plans over. Our builder was then able to submit the plans to initiate permits, surveys and so forth. Our selected builder, Todd Bradley of Live Oak Builders in Beaufort, SC was very complimentary about the final house design, and the quality and detail of the construction documents. We felt John brought a great perspective to our "dream/retirement" house design as he has a great interest in the Carolina low country and had also worked a number of years in home construction himself before starting Olde South Design Studios. With great pleasure, we highly recommend John for your design and drafting needs.

I have been doing business with John for over 13 years and have designed over 30 homes with him, for price ranging at the low-end of 650,000 to the high-end of 10 million. Have never had one argument and I attribute a big part of my success to his home designs. When working on presales with clients he is absolutely the best, cannot recommend any person more highly than him.

I've worked on several very large renovation projects with John over the past several years. Most of the projects we've done involve major redesign of the existing single story home and the addition of a second floor. John has always come through with great design ideas and solutions to sometimes very challenging existing conditions. He stays on schedule and communicates clearly and promptly. He's a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend him!

Olde south Design Studios has been doing work for me for at least 10 years now. They are very detail oriented and deliver great value for the buck. I would recommend them to anybody needing New Home designs and remodeling design. Darrell Galloway
