Blankenship's Cabinets

I have used Blankenship Cabinets on 2 remodels and both times I found the price fair and quality exceptional. On the first job, we refaced the cabinets and put in Quartz countertops. They coordinated the install and subcontracted out other details like wall removal and electric to trusted colleagues. The second time we used them, it was a total gut job on a rental unit that had been trashed by the tenant. They were able to get the job completed in a month and a half so that we could get the unit rented again quickly. The work they did was a miracle comparing to what the place looked like before. They were very conscious of our budget and the place looked great!

Blankenship is by far the worst business that I have dealt with when renovating my home. They are a 2-3 person company where all employees are related. I state this because when discussing an issue to someone at the company, it doesn't mean much because you will end up talking with someone's mother or brother, etc. The "President" of the company is also the installation person. So if you are displeased with the installation of the product, you have no one to talk with. As we were told many times, "I am the installer and the president". The company came out and measured my kitchen and then when the cabinets didn't fit properly, they charged us for the additional materials to try and make the cabinets work. When we complained saying that this was not our mistake (as they did the measuring), they didn't care. They didn't show up their initial installation day and then wanted to schedule us about a week later. When they did show up, they were always about 3 hours late and then only worked about 3 hours. They could never finish up for the day because they always had to order more materials. The installation was supposed to be a 1 - 2 day installation and ended up taking weeks. Cabinets were not cut properly to install appliances and our electricians ended up going to home depot and buying materials to make our appliances fit. They are the folks who ended up making everything work. I could go on and on about this company but the bottom line is that there was an incredible lack of professionalism and a very poor attitude. There was no care or concern in the final product or timeline. I would definitely stear clear of this company and go anywhere else.

Should Have Gone to Lowes As we wrap up a six-figure renovation, I can say with no hesitation that the selection of Blankenship Cabinets was our single biggest mistake. It is hard to describe the number of mistakes that Blankenship made, but highlights included (1) refinishing the wrong set of cabinets, (2) repeatedly failing to pay attention to detail (which is the whole point of custom cabinets), (3) putting baseboard on only two sides of an island, (4) installing a side panel on a bathroom cabinet that was not even close to the same color as the cabinets, and (5) hounding us – and I’m talking about four, five, six calls -- for payment for work that had not been completed. More than once we were shown a “concept” drawing, which they rushed into production only to find that essential details were not considered. When I spoke with Carla about the issues, she blamed me: “we leave the important decisions to the customer.” While I think that the customer should indeed make the decisions, I would expect the company to ask the important questions before moving forward with production. I would not under any circumstances use Blankenship again.
