About Us

Impact Countertops is a boutique stone fabricator in Columbus, Ohio specializing in quartzite, marble, porcelain, granite, and custom stonework. Founded in 2013 and expanded in 2022 through the acquisition of Chester A. Smith (est. 1928), we bring nearly a century of Columbus stone craftsmanship to every project. Every job is laid out digitally in Slabsmith so you approve exactly how the veining falls before we cut - then fabricated on CNC equipment and hand-finished. I selected my granite and met with the owner to place the templates. I offered to stay while he traced them. I offered to come to his shop while he traced them. He said it wasn’t necessary, unlike other companies that video or photograph the placement, he did neither Other companies X out the bad sections. When my granite arrived, it was not my selection. He used the upper left corners of my two slabs and ugly pieces from other slabs. I could not prove to my contractor that he did not use my granite because I had not taken my own pictures. If you use this company, be sure you take pictures and have him mark the templates while you are standing there. Take witnesses. It is costing me $6000 to replace my granite.

Comment from Impact Flooring and Countertops:

We both know this is not a truthful or fair review:
1. There was one part of your kitchen that you did not like the veining on.
2. After hearing your concern, we showed you the layout pictures (from the appointment where we hung templates on the slabs), and from that we determined that the one piece in question occurred because you opted NOT to use a part of the slab that had a brown spot in it. At layout, after placing the rest of your priority pieces, we had half of a slab to place the piece in question, you opted to stay away from the brown spot, using the only other area available.
3. As a remedy for your concern, I took pictures of the project's remnant that we have here at the shop, the one with the brown spot in it. We offered to remake the piece in question with the caveat that the veins would be a closer match, but you would have the brown spot in it.
4. You did not want the brown spot in the piece, and you did not want to schedule more work in your home, so you asked about compensation (reducing your total bill).
5. We agreed to compensate for the confusion during the process as you requested.

We are very accommodating and still have your piece with the spot here if you want it. As we discussed– this is the part of the slab that you initially skipped over, but it is the only thing left from your material. All we ask is that you come see the piece to make sure it is 100% what you want before we proceed.
