Seesaw Studio

I first began my professional career as a graphic designer in children’s publishing. Influenced by the dynamic art furniture culture of New York, I migrated into that field and have been designing and building bespoke furniture for the past 20 years. Central to my approach is an appreciation of furniture as sculpture to compliment the human form and habitat. I draw inspiration from a personal wood-bank that includes commercially extinct exotic veneers (such as: Koa from Hawaii; Fiddle-back Macore; and South American Mahogany Crotch) and reclaimed ancient wood from 50,000 year old buried forests in New Zealand. My goal is to satisfy client needs and concerns by creating works that grow into heirlooms for present use and future enjoyment. In my workshop at American Steel Studios in Oakland California I employ hand finishing techniques to achieve lush and sensuous surfaces on every piece that I create.
