The Rusty Gate

Everything in life is an adventure . . . In fact, Peter Pan said, “To live life is a very big adventure.” (and quoting Peter Pan is so very fun). That’s how I feel about creating The Rusty Gate; it was all one great big adventure (still is actually). For more years than I care to let on, I worked for a large corporation. I was pretty good at what I did and I enjoyed it; until I decided to go and visit my daughter at school (the University of Georgia . . . Go Dawgs!) I talked my sister-in-law into coming with me, as she is like a second mother to my Hilary – and she is my very bestest friend (and she makes me laugh; which makes me wet my pants, but that’s a whole different story). Anyway, for some very strange reason, I got the crazy idea, that while we would fly TO Atlanta, we would rent a car and drive BACK to California, stopping along the way at flea markets and antique stores. So that is what we did. While on our 10 day Beverly Hillbillies jaunt (we had so much stuff piled up in our small SUV, that’s pretty much what we looked like . . . although you will NEVER catch me in a pair of daisy dukes), we met the most amazing people, with so many stories. And we found the coolest stuff. It was during this trip that inspiration hit . . . I should open up a vintage-style home décor store. It’s interesting when inspiration hits. What is more interesting to me is that it probably hits us a zillion times a day; we are just too darn busy to listen to it. It seems to me that it was just a bit of a miracle, that on that particular day in October, in Jacksonville, Arkansas – that I decided to pause and listen to my inner voice of inspiration. I’m so very glad I did.
