“We have worked with Southern Maine Remolding's owner Travis Blake for previous jobs. When we decided to renovate our home to accomodate a studio space, we did not hesitate to contact Mr. Blake to bid on the job. We took an existing space above the garage and turned it into a studio space. The entryway features a 1 1/2 story book wall with storage space under the stairs as well as a custom steel railing. A mudroom was added with cubbies and a flip up bench for additional storage. An extra room was added behind the expanded entryway for guests, featuring a wood stove and barn door for guest privacy when needed. We took down a first floor bedroom wall to expand the kitchen and dining room space (and the mudroom). Posts and beams were added to create an open concept throughout the first floor. The central wall separating the kitchen from the living room was changed to expand the width of the kitchen, making room for an island. Hardwood flooring was laid throughout the first floor as well as in the studio, except in the entryway and mudroom where tile was placed. The first floor bathroom was updated, removing one closet and updating the other, while adding a pocket door. The stairs were also switched to hardwood flooring as well as the upstairs hallway. The master bedroom was dormered due to previous window placements, per code, which allowed space for a new walk in closet. The scope of the project was huge. We chose to stay in the house throughout the renovations, which made things slightly more difficult for the crew, and surely added to time it took to complete the job, through no fault of SMR. With young children safety is always a huge concern of mine. The entire crew was amazing to work with and always considerate of our family and our personal space. The subcontractors SMR works with, were equally considerate. We would not hesitate to contact Mr. Blake for future work, and have not hesitated to already recommend him to local friends looking for a contractor.”
