Or perhaps you resent seeing your work spill into the way of your home life? Those are healthy responses to a situation that can be addressed. Working from home means having an office at home that allows you to work effectively. There are a few things that a real office must have. First, it should be a distinct place. The desk in the corner of the bedroom, the office nook at the edge of the kitchen, or the kitted out hall closet so popular in shelter magazines a few years ago fail to address basic needs: like a door. A functional office should have acoustical & visual privacy, a workspace that doesn’t hurt you, and enough room to do the work you have. Not every office building meets all those criteria; but a well designed home office can. In an initial meeting I will ask you about what you do & how you do it to learn what your home office needs to support. I am Michael Rosenthal-Mix, an interior designer with an MFA from VCU. Good design improves functionality and enriches your life. My design passions are for commanding views; colorful spaces that speak to their settings; the importance of lighting; and a belief that while modern technology is good – it must be deployed with intention, not received unchallenged.
