“SDX recently completed the first phase of a major renovation to our backyard in Deal, NJ. The project included demolishing our existing concrete pool deck, coping and tile (which were 30+ years old); and installing new Techo-Bloc pavers, marble coping, and glass tile. The work done so far has been phenomenal. The craftsmanship has been excellent and the installations are beautiful. It has truly transformed our yard into something we never could have imagined. But the process of working with SDX, and its owner Rod Duque, is what has made this an especially enjoyable experience. Going into this project, we spent several months gathering proposals from about five different companies. With each one, it was very difficult setting up appointments, seeing materials, negotiating prices, and speaking to someone in charge. That was not the case with SDX. Rod made himself available to meet multiple times to go over the project before we signed a contract. He came equipped with samples, catalogues, options, and ideas. And when the time came, he was ready and eager to review and negotiate the proposal until we signed him on. After we signed him on, his deep involvement continued, always being on-site himself and pushing the project forward. Within hours after we signed, for instance, he already had a crew at our house to begin demolition. As with any large project like ours, issues inevitably arise that a homeowner could not have foreseen (e.g. electric, plumbing and sprinkler lines that need to be relocated; leveling challenges; terrible weather; etc.). Yet Rod, already having anticipated these challenge, took ownership of each one, handling them with confidence and a can-do attitude. He also welcomed and encouraged design modifications that would enhance our project beyond the original scope. All of this was refreshing, as other companies would have surely made a big fuss or tried to up-charge their client. Beyond that, Rod was a professional through and through. He maintained a clean and orderly worksite (his team cleaned every night before they left). He completed the project on time. He consulted with us daily on the project's progress and decisions that needed to made. He effectively oversaw the work of his team. He worked collaboratively with our other vendors (e.g. pool equipment company and electrician). And he cared deeply about the project's final outcome. He was passionate about making a beautiful, long-lasting installation. We look forward to working with Rod on the next phase of our project- redoing our pool plaster and installing landscape lights.
