We have hired Brickstone Masonry on 4 separate occasions. Once for chimney work at my former residence and on three separate projects at my current residence (retaining walls, granite steps, culvert work). The quality of work was outstanding. We have received many positive comments about the aesthetics of our walls and steps. The crews were efficient, professional and the management was very responsive. They were a pleasure to work with and I will be using them on my next project.

Ben, Ashley, Josh and crew are true artists when it comes to stone work. My wife and I enlisted them to completely transform our property and we couldn't be happier. Ben listened to my disjointed ideas and brought it all together to plan and construct the ultimate outdoor living area. Prior to breaking ground, Ben provided a very detailed and competitive proposal, and Ashley created computer simulations to allow us to visualize the finished product. When it came to construction, I've never seen a more dedicated crew, leaving a completely spotless site each day. Ben's materials selection was top notch, and I'm still amazed as to how they put such perfect curves in those natural stone walls (absolute artists). All projects were completed on time and based on agreed budget. I've enlisted Brickstone for a number of projects, and highly recommend them to anyone looking to complete any kind of stone work. They've created the ultimate portfolio on my property including a large multi-tiered patio, an outdoor kitchen/bar area, replaced a large front stoop and walkway, chimney work and caps, concrete sonotubes for a pergola, crushed stone foundation for a shed, and a floor to ceiling reface of my family room's brick fireplace. Every project they've worked on for us has been an extremely positive experience.

We had two new walkways and a bluestone patio installed. The work is beautiful and we are very happy with it. The men worked extremely hard 12 hours a day and were very courteous. Everything was well cleaned up at the end of each day. We highly recommend them!

My wife and I knew we wanted a patio/outdoor living space and we knew the area we wanted it. Other than that, we didn’t know what we were looking for as a design. Ben came to the house and we showed him the area and he asked what we wanted. I explained that we knew we wanted a patio in the area but nothing other than that. He asked a couple of questions and said he will send a design to us. A short time later, we received a computer generated design by Ashley. It was amazing! I showed my wife and she stated, “I love it! How much?” We got a great and reasonable quote and went forward with the project. We were so impressed at the quality of work, all of the workers work ethic and personality, and the promised completion deadline. The end result looked exactly like the computer design. Everyone who sees it is amazed at it and can’t stop complimenting it. We have since asked them for quotes and designs on other projects, including redoing the entire front yard. I would not only recommend this company but we will not use any other company!

During the process of selling my house I discovered I needed a landscape plan to showcase the possibilities of our backyard to prospective purchasers. I needed it urgently, so Ashley and Ben visited within hours of our contact and had a beautiful plan within days. Ashley worked through the weekend to get it done. The final charges were very reasonable especially considering the tight turnaround and quality of the finished product. These are fine people who are also very good at what they do. I enthusiastically recommend them and would use them again.

Our home, a circa 1900 Victorian, is perched on an elevated corner lot of main street in a small town. A century old retaining wall, approximately four feet high and composed of irregular granite block, extends the the full length of the property. Aesthetically, the wall delineates our property from the public sidewalk below and the street just beyond that, but functionally, it is a critical component of the structural integrity of the property and consequently our home. With the passage of time, the wall fell into a state of disrepair, the result of poor drainage, physical limitations of the original construction and unfortunately neglect. Although the granite block is nearly indestructible, years of freeze and thaw cycles had stressed the mortar to the breaking point, resulting in several substantive failures along the length of the wall. By the summer of 2017, it was time to address the problems with a complete disassembly and proper reconstruction. Many of the masons we spoke to about the project simply, and honestly, told us the job was too difficult. The confines of the site are extraordinarily restrictive, and essentially require working almost exclusively within the narrow margin of a three foot wide sidewalk that borders the wall. Restoring nearly 80 feet of this wall, some blocks weighing in excess of 400 pounds, would require thoughtful planning, unflagging patience, and uncommon ingenuity. Brickstone Masonry were unequivocally the right masons for our project. Ben Bascon is an incredibly talented mason, and a true craftsman passionate about his work. The deconstruction of the wall began in late fall of 2017. The process required a great deal of forethought and careful execution. Every stone removed from the wall had to be sorted, and retained on site, where it was readily accessible for future reassembly. All of this was accomplished with nothing more than a small excavator and a two man team, which was no small feat considering the prohibitively tight confines. With the wall fully dismantled, Ben got to work repairing footings and adding proper drainage, something that was desperately lacking in the original construction. With a new foundation in place, the reassembly could begin. Following some devine plan, stones were selected from the neat piles, and placed together as if they were always meant to be that way. It was truly fascinating to watch, Ben confidently and methodically bringing the wall back to life. At the conclusion, the wall was flawless, but looked like it had been that way for a hundred years. I truly believe that no one could have done a better job. There was nothing simple or straight-forward about this project: the job site was beyond demanding, the stone was large and cumbersome, the weather was uncooperative and cruel, and all of this was on display under the constant spot light of the busy little main street. Yet, faced with all of these obstacles, Ben showed up to work every day eager and excited to undertake the challenge. He always had a smile and never failed to take some time each morning to talk about what the plan for the day was. I can not recommend Ben and Brickstone Masonry highly enough, and know that he will be the mason we call for our next project.

It was a pleasure to work with Ben, Ashley, and their team on my recent project. I interviewed four companies for this project, and BrickStone was by far the most professional and responsive, all at a comparable price. The project was finished on time and on budget, and I couldn't be happier with my new granite patio. The job site was left clean at the end of each workday, and communication was excellent. Ben and his team were always more than willing to answer any questions and provide suggestions. Not only does BrickStone do quality work, but they are actually enjoyable to work with! Everyone on the team is friendly and likeable, and it's obvious that they all deeply enjoy their craft. After speaking with several contractors we chose to work with Ashley and Ben. What a great decision. They designed and built a beautiful bluestone patio, fire pit and stone wall. We are thrilled with how it looks and working with both of them was a pleasure and fun. Ben works incredibly hard and is a true professional. Ashley is responsive and full of great ideas. We are still coming up with new ideas for them to work on! I can't recommend them highly enough!

If I could give Ben and his team 6 stars, I would. I have extensively renovated our house over the past 4 years so I am quite familiar with contractors and subs and consider myself a savvy client (English tudor in Brookline has gotten a new kitchen, windows, 3 story addition, wine cellar, finished basement, backyard retaining wall). Ben was by far the most professional, detail oriented contractor I have ever worked with. To start, he was so reliable. Present on site every single day, from 8am till sunset, which is a rarity in this business. He or his wife answered every email the same day and gave me their personal cell phones, which I tried not to abuse. Second, he was incredibly detail oriented--a true artist whose dedication and personal investment in the beauty of the product was evident. My parents were visiting for 3 weeks of the project and my mother would marvel about how Ben would agonize over choosing the perfect shade of gray or tan to build the next stone into the wall. He never seemed to tire of the details and even drove two hours to inspect some "reclaimed cobblestones" I had fallen in love with online, and found them to be poor quality. He sourced better ones for me to make my vision come true and really seems to "get" what the client wants the end product to look like. Many neighbors have stopped to admire and ask for referrals. Even the town building inspector commented on how this is one of the best masonry jobs he'd seen recently. Third, he and his wife were so accommodating of changes. When I decided I didn't like the type of steps that were installed, Ben changed it to what I wanted without complaint. When I asked for an intricate pattern of walkway cobblestones to be laid, he made the thousand extra cuts, no problem. Last day of the job, I decide I want a granite windowsill? Done. Fourth, Ben is a wealth of ideas about what will look good. For those that really are anal about the aesthetics of the job, he is a great fit. He will spend the time to discuss different patterns, shapes, and textures. Fifth, Ben worked seamlessly with our landscaper and electrician to make our end result perfect. They loved his can-do team player attitude. Last, Ben and his partner Chris were true gentlemen. They were there every day with a smile, never failed to offer to help me lug bags from my car, would insist on taking my trashcans to the curb for trash day, and left the job site cleaner than they began. BrickStone was not the cheapest quote, but probably the middle of the road after getting 4 quotes. The end product, however, looked like it should have cost $15,000 more than it did! I VERY seldom leave reviews for anyone but I think Ben and his team have more than deserved every accolade they've gotten on Houzz. Since I chose them based on these rave reviews, I want to add and give them the best endorsement. You won't be sorry!
