10 Displayed Collections That Make Me Drool
I've got a lot of stuff and most of it is kind of casually (sloppily?) tucked someplace in my house. Some of it is hidden. Some of it is hidden at my parents' or in-laws' houses (I'm looking at you, husband's comic book collection). Little of it is organized.
I have dreams, though, that are triggered by seeing some of the really well-organized, beautifully displayed collections here on Houzz.
These 10 are so inspiring they sometimes keep me up at night:
I have dreams, though, that are triggered by seeing some of the really well-organized, beautifully displayed collections here on Houzz.
These 10 are so inspiring they sometimes keep me up at night:
1. Action figures. Don't call them dolls. Seriously, though, how great is this uniform, clean display of action figures? It transforms them from toys to bona fide art. (Transforms - get it? Like Transformers?)
2. Globes. My initial reaction to this picture was, and I'm not kidding: OMG those are globes in the fireplace. I love globes to start with and I think the fireplace display is absolutely unexpected and genius.
3. Clear jars, doesn't matter what's in them. In this case, the display format is more important than the collection itself. I love the sheer number of the jars and the way they're backlit.
4. Vintage tins. This collection's display really works for me since the shelves are a little distressed themselves, matching the "vintage" feel of the tins.
5. Little liquor bottles. I had to squint to see that those shelves are lined with small, interesting bottles of liquor. Functional and also perfectly curated and artistic.
6. Purses! This is Becky's purse closet and it is also my dream. Look at the color!
Here's a close-up of the closet - I could stare at that all day!
7. Cameras. This particular shelf, in Mrs. Limestone's living room is just fabulous. I love how the black and white of the cameras plays off the back of the shelves.
8. Art glass. When displaying art glass, it's so important to think about light sources. I really like that these shelves are pulled out just a little from the wall so you get light behind it and can see shadows.
9. Signed celebrity photos. I love the way these autographed head shots are tucked into an alcove with a piano - it's so totally Hollywood and dramatic.
10. Chinese antiques. When you've got a museum-quality collection, like this selection of Chinese antiques, it's important to think like a museum curator. Each piece has appropriate lighting and enough space that it a) will be safe and b) can be appreciated on its own or as a part of the whole.
