I absolutely love subway tile ... especially the classic white 3x6. I am putting it in my guest bath, and would love to do it in my kitchen and masterbath. 1) Is it overkill to use it in so many rooms? 2) Should I be consistent with the size/type, or can I vary this ... ex. beveled edge, different size, etc.? Thank you!!! »
bepsf Installing the same tile throughout various spaces is unimaginative and boring.
There are so many tiles out there - different glazes, textures & shapes, and far more sizes than 3x6. There are also unlimited ways to install tile - it doesn't all have to be a simple horizontal running bond.
Have a look here to see what I mean - and try to imagine something more interesting for your own spaces.
Love this kitchen. I want to to a subway tile for my backsplash, but the tile guy keeps saying it will look like bathroom tile!! he won't even let me bring home a sample. What do you think?

bamamom I agree with aevalouise...find a new tile guy! Your kitchen do what you want. From the pictures posted, subway tile is definitely acceptable in the kitchen. I even see it on all of the HGTV makeover shows, etc. Love how irredescent it looks in your sample photo
maricedar The back splash tile is Pratt & Larson, metallic, color c609. It isn't white at all when you see it in person, it is really quite grayish. The back splash in this photo looks really white and iridescent and I think it is the lighting because the tile is definitely not that white.
usbad Has anyone had any luck in locating this backsplash tile? Please post any information you may have. The earlier website referenced doesn't look like it matches. Thank you...

Anne DeCocco Glass is heat resistant. It's the adhesive that's used to install the tile that needs to be able to tolerate the heat. We don't want a tile falling off into the sauce pot!
Pratt and Larson Ceramics Thank you for your interest in Pratt and Larson. The backsplash is Pratt & Larson's 3x6 ceramic subway tile (PT-36XX) in one of metallic glazes. Please visit our website to locate a drealer near you or call 503.231.9464. C609

Hi! Can someone tell me what size is the wall cabinet next to the hood on the left side. Also, is the three door wall cab two separate cab.? Love it! Thanks »
This marvelous kitchen rivals the most elegant dining room. It's the iridescent glow of the backsplash that makes diners give this delight a double take.
I love plain white subway tiles, but this shimmering opalescent backsplash gives the familiar style so much more interest. It's like a pearl necklace for your kitchen!
9. Iridescent backsplash tiles give this kitchen a little bit of glamour to this simple kitchen. A mix of modern and traditional finishes gives it a unique look people fell in love with.
Choosing the right length is key. Too small and they get lost in the cabinet. Too large, you run the risk of hardware overload. We suggest marking the cabinet with a piece of painter's tape in the size you are considering and living with it for a few days. And, of course, do just a few cabinets or drawers first to make sure the size is right before committing to the entire room.

I do like a shiny backsplash! This is a cool iridescent one I haven't seen before. I think I like the idea of something interesting, like texture or shine, for the backsplash. I want some kind of slick, non-porous material so it's easy to clean.
Love the tile backsplash; cabinets are too plain for my taste- they look more like "cabinets" instead of the free-standing furniture look that I prefer
