This kitchen was formerly a dark paneled, cluttered, divided space with little natural light. By eliminating partitions and creating an open floorplan, as well as adding modern windows with traditional detailing, providing lovingly detailed built-ins for the clients extensive collection of beautiful dishes, and lightening up the color palette we were able to create a rather miraculous transformation. Another one of the client's collections included cabinet hardware. If you look closely around the kitchen, you'll see that there are different sets of knobs and pulls everywhere. These are fun small details that add big personality to the room and show just how long she was dreaming of this renovation. Floors: Locally salvaged wide plank pine
It's tempting to use knobs that match in the kitchen, but this client of Smith & Vansant Architects collected the knobs for this kitchen over 15 years. Like antique silver, some things are simply better when they have a touch of variety.
