The goal of the homeowner was to modernize and make the existing kitchen more functional by adding storage, countertop work space, and better task lighting. Castle was able to design an updated kitchen that refaced and painted half of the cabinets and added new deeper cabinets in an L shape that helped meet the clients goals. White painted shaker style doors and slab drawers help compliment the locally made recycled glass countertops and white oak hardwood floors. Thanks to ample LED cabinet lighting the most noticeable feature of this updated kitchen is the local hand-made mid-century backsplash tile from Mercury Mosaics. A new ThermaTru fiberglass backdoor was also installed. Stainless steel LG appliances from Warner’s Stellian and classic chrome accessories and fixtures give the perfect finishing touches. See this kitchen on the 2018 Castle Educational Home Tour, and while you’re at it, check out the previously remodeled basement / bathroom / laundry room which is also on tour!

This 1931 South Minneapolis kitchen was in dire need of more storage and function. While preserving the original cabinets and checker board floors, we decided to open up the space to the large unused back entry. New custom cabinetry was designed to match the existing cabinets and all new custom recycled glass countertops were installed. A custom bar table was designed with recycled glass tops for additional eat-in seating. A new Kohler cast-iron sink and Kohler faucet were installed. All new knobs and pulls finished off the cabinetry. White subway tile was installed on the sink wall with dark grout to mimic the checker board floors and a large accent glass wall was designed to highlight the modern stove and appliances. This contemporary kitchen has a recycled granite and glass counter and metallic grey subway tile backslash. The counter color is called Terra di Sienna and its 3/4" thick, it can be placed on top of an existing counter or on a new cabinet. There are many colors available that they are stain resistant, scratch resistant, heat resistant and do not need to be polished. The subway tile is called Onyx and it comes in 3"x6". There are different colors in the subway tile and the same colors are available in different shapes in the Liberty and Metropolis collections.
