We are looking to purchase a sectional sofa - "Harding" by Room & Board. Our options are either 107" x 107" or 117" x 117". The dilemma surrounds the wood beam the divides the TV room from the kitchen and a vent near the wall with windows that we don't want to get covered by the couch.

While the 107" sofa fits perfectly between the beam and the wall, without covering the vent, we can fit the 117" since there is no actual wall. However for it to not cover the vent, it would need to sit a few inches "out" overlapping with the beam.

Since the beam acts as an "invisible wall" we are not sure if the couch coming out toward the kitchen a few inches will look bad, or do we sacrifice for an extra 10" of couch? You can see in the photo below where the blue tape is, makes how far out the 117" sofa would fit, while the 107" would fit where the rug is -- more in the designated "space" of the TV room.
