Hanging a chandelier in a dining room

We are switching the formal living room and dining room for space reasons. The new dining room doesn't have as a define space as the previous location. I would like to keep an open walk way in the dining space because we travel through there often. So here is my question: do I need to hang the chandelier in the exact middle of the new dining room? Or since I currently have the table slightly to the left, can I center the light over where the table is? Will the off centered light look odd?

i would center the actual power source and swag the fixture over, this can be done neatly with cord cover rather then extra swag chain. Reason for this, if you ever want to center the table, or for resale, the power is in the right location. otherwise over the table is fine.

I would like to see the table centered in the window. Try this -- move the buffet to the left wall and move the table right until it centers in the window. You still have exactly the same space to walk in only now you have symmetry. You also now don't have a giant blank wall looking into your dining room from your living room.
