Kitchen lighting advice

I am trying to order a chandelier to go over my island, which is 38x70. Should I go with linear island lighting or a round chandelier? It is a big room, so worried about scale.

hi, i think you should get 2 or 3 pendant over your Island. chandelier's more for a Dining room and pendant would really finish the kitchen off nicely - something like this:

I also think you should get a few smaller lights instead a chandelier. It will be too overwhelming.

I really like the ones in the picture, but I have one existing outlet (recessed light) over the island which I would like to use for one light. My husband does not want to put more holes in the ceiling (we have been working on house for a while). How about something such as this:

If you don't want to go with small pendants, I would go with one round light in the middle. There are so many wonderful lights. I have even saw them at Home Depot (on-line), and Lamps Plus is having an 80% off sale today.

I did click on your links for lighting, and I like the last one best. :)

I like your choices the best for this room. Seems like lately in show homes bigger is better. Saw a lot of lantern like fixtures lots of multiple chandeliers as well . I think the light with the two large shades will give that look with no more holes.:) follow your instincts on this one you are doing great!

Was very worried about the larger shades but that makes me feel better!

I like the third one you posted best, but any one of them would work well in your kitchen and will give a similar effect as multiple pendants.

I would go with something like on this photo. I am concerned the other ones will be too small/high since you mention the room is pretty big and the ceiling looks really high.

I have no idea who makes them, I just googled "squared chandelier" in images because that is what I imagined for your kitchen. Try googling it too - there are different styles and you can find the manufacturers too.

Get a vent hood with a light. And vent it. Anything else will just become a greasy dirty hard to clean mess. Unless you never cook.

I have a down draft. I never fry things- so not too worried about grease.

I agree something linear would be nice. Also, there are pendant kits that utilize one outlet like you are requesting

Both options could work for you, but I tend to recommend a rectangular hanging lights or even a cluster of pendants light, that will provide more light for the space.
We carry unique lighting that are available in different sizes, and can be adjusted to any ceiling height.
