strange-looking strawberry

We have a strawberry whose seeds seem to be germinating while the berry is still on the vine. It looks like a "chia-strawberry" with little baby plants emerging all over the fruit's surface. Has anyone seen this before? I have a photo, but am not sure how to post it.
