I just recently got 5 catci and i am still working on figuring out how to tell which is what...but how do you "cross" them?? And i had no clue that they can produce fruit. Interesting :)

Not fruit in the edible sense, just in that there will be seeds inside a fleshy outer covering if pollination occurs. Crossing means manually pollinating by putting the pollen from one plant on the pistil of another plant, to attempt to cause pollination to happen (performing the work that bees, moths, or hummingbirds would do in nature.) One must have multiple plants to try to do this for this particular kind of plant (meaning both Christmas & TG cacti) because they are self-sterile.

TG, when I get blooms open on enough different plants, I'll see if I can make anything happen. Thanks for the inspiration, never tried before.

I crossed my yellow with my red (seed parent) last year. Small plants on my office window. I ended with too fruit and have a couple of nice seedings now. Hopefully they will bloom next year!!

Can this really be done? And does anything special need to be done to Christmas/other holiday cacti seeds? You know, there's a trick to every plant, cover the seed with soil, don't cover it, cold stratification or not, etc. I'd love to get seeds to play with, but first I need to get more holiday cacti, lol! Hoping to trade for more. I never thought of crossing the holiday cacti . . . wonder when they would bloom!

I have seen some transgeneric hybrids between the 2 type of holiday cacti. I as I said got fruit between thanksgiving cacti and im please 2 announce I now have my first transgeneric fruit!

I hope you produce larger flowered plants with longer blooming season.
