I agree on the blotch. Strictly a cosmetic issue. IF you peel off the skin the flesh will be fine. Not a big issue if using the fruit for cooking purposes.

The companion fungus is flyspeck, also harmless, that looks like fly specks.

gardenlady...if you are someone opposed to spraying in general (I can see those apples never had fungicide sprays) you should consider sulfur. Sulfur is (I believe) approved for organic operations and is a very inexpensive and highly effective fungicide for control of sooty blotch and flyspeck. It is also imo the most effective fungicide for mildews and will also control other fungal issues of apples occurring to both fruit and foliage. It is relatively safe as compared to other options and again...it is VERY cheap. I use the Bonide brand bagged micronized sulfur, though any WP version of it will be the same. You can dust it (although I don't know why anyone would) or it mixes easily with water to be sprayed. You simply plop a little in your spray tank add water (don't even have to shake or stir) and begin spraying. It will never clog your sprayer. It persists well on foliage and fruit even through some rainstorms.
If you spray it, you won't have ANY of that stuff on your apples. It also kills mites as a bonus.
A 4 or 5lb. bag is around $10 and would be enough to spray several medium sized trees for a decade. It never clumps in the bag from moisture either and never loses it's effectiveness. Also, it has no fungal resistance development issues either.

It comes off fairly easy with a diluted vinegar spray and rubbing it off with a paper towel.
