I grafted on some pears to my shipova because it was so amazingly slow to mature. They lose their leaves earlier than other pears and have also not matured quickly. I think I have mountain ash as my rootstock as well. The shipova fruited much more quickly for me on aronia rootstock, but they are even more subject to fungal disease on them.

I just found an article about the Shipova that's very interesting. I'm getting confliciting data from the GRIN site. The list of large size fruit lists Shipova, but then in this article is says it is small (and worth the wait).

I have tried shipova and they taste good. They are smaller than pears and do take forever to produce anything. They hate heat and drought and are very prone to fireblight. Mine produced one fruit after many years, then promptly got fireblight and I removed it.
