It reminds me of when my uncle from Sweden came to visit us here in Silicon Valley, He was an avid outdoors/camper kind of guy.
We took an auto tour around the bay side of the Bay Area, and he started to talk about the trees, wind directions and how to pitch a tent in the best direction etc...
He did not know how to speak English, so I translated all of it to our kids and DH.
They were amazed how much he knew about our "local" trees.
I explained that he knew how to "read" trees.
