Ranunculus/wort or something else?

I know it's invasive as the rabbits/deer have not eaten it but there's only 1 that I can see so it hasn't "invaded" yet.

Found in No. VA, cove forest so wet and rocky, Appalachian Mts.

First pic is close up of flowers (very small flowers)

an invasive weed... is a weed ..

i will never understand .. why being native makes it any better ...

i suppose.. in a pasture.. or the forest ... its a native..

but in a garden bed its a weed ...

ps: of course.. the short answer is.. that a weed is defined as something that is something you dont want where it sits ... one is a botanical description.. and one is a gardeners prerogative ....

Ken: I guess anything could be a weed in a garden bed due to limited space. However, I don't have a garden per se. I have a bit of woods and some disturbed land that I'm trying to turn back into forested or at least some sort of wild/natural state. Many people consider goldenrod to be a weed but because on this property it is controlled by the canopy, i.e. it doesn't stray into the woods and it feeds some bees and butterflies I don't consider it to be a weed. To me the weeds are oriental bittersweet, pawlonia, trees of heaven, stiltgrass and canada thistle. These things kill less aggressive species and reduce the number of species present in a given area. I agree weeds are definitely a grey area but I think it's fair to say that the majority of introduced species end up being aggressive and invasive thereby reducing the number of native (or more well behaved) species.
