I am by no means an expert on this but I still believe that id is incorrect. The local name may not be botanically accurate. I have just returned from Jordan where I was confidently informed that Asphodelus seed pods where 'wild Tulips'.

Although the Greeks may be calling it Schinus I believe there is confusion between the common name and the botanical one. According to Wiki 'The generic name (of Schinus) is derived from the Greek word for Pistacia lentiscus, Σχίνος (schinos), which it resembles.[5]'

So there is clearly confusion in common parlance. The Greek word for Pistacia is Schinus. Perhaps you could do some more research locally but ask someone with real knowledge rather than relying on a common name. The size and habit you give is absolutely right for Pistacia and I have seen it by the acre all over the med in dry rocky areas. Pistacia terebinthus
