Ladylotus, I never heard of this alfalfa meal before. I am wondering that any of us here ever use it. If so, what is the outcome.

Thank you for your reply. I just added it to my adeniums so I don't know what the results are yet. I will let you know the outcome. I will take some before photos and progress photos. It may do nothing...not sure.

For my roses and conifers, it greens things up and really makes for strong roots. In fact, I had a few roses that were struggling, had pale to almost no leaves. I added alfalfa meal into the soil all around the plants and they started flourishing in a months time.

You get alfalfa meal at a feed store in 40 to 50 lbs bags.

There is a man on the Hosta site who uses alfalfa pellets to start his plants off in the spring. He swears by them. Says that it really makes for stronger leaves. I am trying to remember if alfalfa was ever used as a rotation crop, lol, back in the day.

How did you add it? I find this interesting also. Paula

I'm curious if it would benefit seedlings to help get them more established a little faster.

Paula, I just added a little to the top layer of a few of my seedlings I planted up this spring. I too have heard it really makes a difference. We shall see what happens.

Kirk, that was what I was thinking too when I started adding more around my roses last week. So I decided to try a little on my seedlings. I placed a mark on the ones I added it too so that I could keep track in hopes of identifying any positive results.
