Why the lime?

Keeping the compost acidic will prevent the loss of ammonia. If your soil is acidic, it would be better to add it to the soil not the compost.

So, Buffalo, you're not making that in your homemade tumbler, are you? You have huge piles that I am not aware of?

Would love to see pics of your setup. BTW, I was very impressed with your homemade tumber. Very green. It works. Everyone with extra materials should do that. I still have your pics on flicker as a favorite.

no im doin it in the earth machine.

I think i figured out the earth machine.

The little door on the bottom is useless except to check the state of things. But the top half comes off.. Remove top half transfer medium/ half composted top part of heap compost to other bins. keep pulling off the top till you see black gold.. Shovel way down below soil line of good black gold to can. Rebuild pile in lower section.. Replace the top half of earth machine, keep piling up old stuff layer with some good compost too if you can spare it. I've been poking through the heap with a big iron bar; it goes right through easy. Keep building up for awhile then harvest again.

I had the lime laying around and just wanted to use it. I think the small amounts will be insignifigant.

Build it up and keep adding to it. It will shrink quick.

Im still tumbling out of my blue drum, gotta get some grass clippings and finish of this batch....
