PROPER pruning.. never hurt anything.. of course you can do it ...

but i would suggest.. you do not give it a haircut.. a foot or two back ...

get some decent hand clippers ... grab a long branch.. track up ... and when you find a shorter branch in the road ... snip off the longer ...

continue at will.. until you have what you want ... even .. perhaps.. coming back to one you already shortened .. and shortening it more ...

just never forget.. you can always take more.. but you cant staple them back on ...

and .. there really isnt any hurry ... and if .. in a few weeks you find more.. or your vision... goal ... becomes more defined.. snip a few more off ....

just trimmed mine back a week or so ago... right after it flowered.. because it nearly knocked me off my rider .... i mean really now.. who is in charge around here... well.. it knows now.. it isnt the tree ...

if you do it right ... though the canopy will be lifted ... you really wont know it was done .. because there wont be a straight line across the bottom ... like you put a bowl over its head.. and gave it a haircut ...
