mine have been happy in a direct sun-less location. i love benediction.

This sounds like a perfect fit for my shade area...but, I just read that to avoid mildew, you have to cut it back to the ground after flowering, and then the new leaves will be mildew resistant. Makes sense, but the area will be bare during the in between times.

no, but i certainly will now, next summer that is.thanks much for that info; very helpful!!suggestion- focus your attention elsewhere while they regenerate.or plant lamium around them so the blank spot won't be so obvious, or put a potted plant(perennial, annual, whatever) so that it blocks the view of the dead spot.gertrude jekyl was famous for doing the latter with potted hostas. now, granted that was for much bigger blank spots but you can still do a riff on that idea.
