It might be a little hard to sand the rungs and tight spaces. I paint furniture and repurpose it. I do not like spray paint and swear by brushes and rollers. I would use a brush...but get a good one like Purdy. They cost more but they really do a better job. I also use a 4 inch foam roller. It helps smooth over brush strokes. Use a primer and it can help cover the areas that you aren't able to sand. Hope this helps!
