Prunus - probably serotina

Thanks. Makes sense as we are suppose to have those on our property. I'll have to remember to be on the look out for the flowers in the spring.

They don't live very long in these parts...more of a trash tree. Prone to disease and will probably max out at 20 yrs if you're lucky. I've seen many come and go.

I have several healthy black cherrys over 25yrs old and couple a few houses down much older. Wouldn't consider it a trash tree.

I think some people don't recognize the mature form of Prunus serotina because the bark on a big one is so different from the young form.
