That is what I have always done when I sowed seeds indoors to prevent the plants from being leggy. You stop all the competition while not disturbing the roots. I have planted almost everything I ws in hunks but the ones I had left in the containers I spaced out and they have grown much bigger. I have read here that although growth may start out small they will take off in hunks and I am counting on that. I have also clipped out some seedlings in the container to give less competition. I will try in future not to plant the whole packet of seeds in one milk carton. This is my first year WS and I wanted to make sure I had germination! Boy did I ever!

linda_jo - all newbies do the same thing and I ended up with containers of foxglove that looked like Chia pets. And I thought I sowed lightly.

I can't plant out until it starts back raining again. We are now in a Dry Period. My plants are withering and becoming leggy. I wish it would Rain! This happened last summer. I'm crossing my fingers!

ladyrose, I wish I could share. It rained Fri, Sat, Sun and is predicted for this Thu, Fri, Mon and Tue! We are usually in a drought around here. Hope you get rain soon (some of ours).
