How stress can impact blooms

Hans-Warner had posted recently about a hybrid that was really prone to different appearance induced by stress. Here is a great example of that very hybrid at my house.

Wonderful, healthy bulb with 2 scapes blooming at the same time:

3rd scape snapped off (broke due to its own weight) and now blooming in water:

They look like totally different hybrids!

Amazing! Sure shows you should never give up on the first blooms from a stressed bulb!

Yup...to clarify, the scape was still growing and the bloom's bud was still tight when it snapped off. It was in water probably a good week or more until it bloomed. Looks like a totally different flower! I assure you it is not!
