Basjoos corms will grow big and split the plastic pot. And the pups can surely split a plastic pot. It may not happen the first year, but likely the second and for sure the third -- especially in your long growing season. Why basjoos, if you live in Florida? You know it's not edible, right? If you're interested in blooms, there are some attractive perhaps less invasive ornamental bananas....like velutina, and ornata hybrids. If you're interested in edible fruit, there are many more to chose from.

I have to agree with dave, basjoo is for us northern people. Try an ensete Maurelli, lots of red color on the leaves and it doesn't pup.It will not produce edible fruit though.

Thanks for the ideas. The fact that the banana plant fruits isn't mandatory, I just like the idea. :) I forgot to mention I'm north Florida zone 9a so that kind of limits me. The main thing I was looking for was a decent size banana plant that adds a tropical look (that's why I like the basjoo) and doesn't multiply (or can be contained). I'll check out all the suggestions though.
