Planting info for last frost date of 17-24 March

Based upon last frost date of 17-20 March period:

15 March - Cabbage and Cauliflower (start indoors)

29 March - Broccoli (start indoors)

5 Apr - Onion sets can be planted outside

12 Apr - Leaf lettuce (start indoors)

12 Apr - Peas and spinach start planting in weekly succession outside

19 Apr - Cabbage and cauliflower can be moved outside. Protect plants with row covers while growing to keep off small white butterflies - their caterpillar larvae are destructive - ruined my cabbage completely last year.

19 Apr - start planting turnip and radish seed outside

26 Apr - start planting beets and potato outside

26 Apr - tomato and peppers (start inside)

3 May - plant out broccoli and leaf lettuce

10 May - chard and carrots (plant outside)

17 May - spinach and radish should be ready to start harvesting

17 May - melons, cucumbers and squash (start inside)

24 May - okra, pumpkins (start inside)

24 May - personal experience - I would start taking tomato and pepper plants outside this week for an hour at a time, in the shade, the following week 2 hours and gradually increase time spent outside and start exposing to sun. Alternatively you can plant in sun but I would set up a shade cloth (old sheet nailed on top of embedded wooden stakes i the ground) for a week or more.

24 May - okra and pumpkins (start indoors)

31 May - green/yellow bush beans, beans and sweet corn (plant outside) - corn will fail if planted in cold ground

7 Jun - melons, cucumbers, squash move outside and plant (I've planted seed directly outside earlier than this and cucumber starts are sold on May long weekend so these could probably be started in the second week of May from my experience)

14 Jun - plant outside okra and pumpkin plants outside. (My personal experience I direct seeded okra seeds during the May long weekend and had bumper crop).

My head was multi-tasking! Yikes! Thank you for catching this. Between painting 3 square feet at a time in my bathroom (mental block on this job but forcing myself to do it until it's done), planting more seeds, checking all my babies (starting to work on filling side windows in other rooms that super wide depth) and generally doing some laundry, bringing wood, checking emails...I get all over the place mentally. Spring fever - I want to do everything at once.

MAY DAY! MAY DAY! MAY DAY!

Hahahahahahahahahahahhhaaa - I'm having a twit moment! I have to stop twittering about and just get focused. At 49 I decided to stop saying "mature moment"....want to save that for my 50th next year.

I'm having a twit moment! Teee heeee heeeeeee.

Good thing you folk are awake - thank you for correcting me. Wouldn't want anyone to start their stuff at the wrong time.

LOL to all my gardening buddies,
    Peggy

Hi Lois - I'm having waaaaaaay tooooo much fun lately. My bathroom is getting done around my seeding. My garden takes priority. I've been painting that bathroom mentally for the last two years - why rush now? It will be done this week though as I am making good progress now.

But the baby plants popping up. Today I've noticed the first of my tumbler tomato and my blue angel salvia patens poking their heads up. (Insert image of Peggy dancing for joy all over her craft room and around the couch in the main room. Oh what the heck, let's throw in a couple of flips while we're at it!)

I'm off to visit my pal down the road - it's her day off. I'll be back to torment everyone shortly.

This list I did to help myself this year and then remembered all my friends here. Hopefully by following this I won't need a machete this year in the house. Ah - what the heck I'll just start more perennial flowers like lupins and foxgloves....and...........

    Seize the day!
    LOL to all,
    Peggy
