The Legislature grounds have gardens and they are free. The Map doesn't mention the flowers or the reflecting pools, which is a shame. no pics but some reviews

The Muttart Conservatory has year round displays of plants from desert, temperate, and tropical climate zones, and seasonal displays. In addition, the grounds are the site of a variety of horticultural projects. Horticultural Projects at the Muttart and elsewhere.

Edmonton gets top ratings in the Cities in Bloom competitions. This is thanks in part to home gardens. Information about home gardens can be found on the Edmonton Horticultural Society website. They have the winners of the annual Front Yards in Bloom contest with addresses. Chances are the yards will look good in 2010. Usually, a finalist generates neighbourly competition so there will be multiple attractive gardens in an area. Here are photos of the finalists yards. If you get the right date, there may be a garden tour. The gardens tab on their website has links to information about tours etc.

Hole's Greenhouses/Garden centre is nearby in St.Albert. Not being from Edmonton, I'm not sure how far out it is. Lois Hole was the Lt.Governor of Alberta and has written (with her son Jim) many gardening books and articles. I never met her, but it sounds like she was quite a lady.

Holes is pretty close in if you are on the north side, they have a pretty nice garden and are a good source for new plants and an enjoyable walkthrough although it can be pretty packed in the spring. The new site sounds like it will be amazing. There are alot of interesting little garden centers around town to browse.
