How often to water a potted Bristlecone pine?

I recently inherited a young potted Bristlecone pine sapling, but I am wondering how often I should water it? I looked up its native environment and apparently it grows in volcanic high alpine soil where I can't imagine it would have received a ton of water. Given that, I am thinking that it should be watered no more than once a week...but that is just a guess.

Any suggestions on how often to water this sapling?

Relevant information:

- I am located in the South Bay Area
- The sapling is about 12" tall
- It is planted in a 12" pot
- The soil composition is pretty close to its natural environment...quick draining...pumice/pine-bark/perlite/moss.
