Kumqats Fruit not edible

outdoorgurl

I planted 2 Kumquats at the same time in pots last year. The plants are healthy. One is more spindly than the other. The spindly one's fruit is edible the bushy one the fruit is pulling away from the rind and they are overly sour. What can I do to correct the fruit on the bushy plant. I fertilize them once a season with a granulated citrus food.

Thanks
