Picea abies 'Cranstonii'.

Edwin, what's the difference between 'Cranstonii' and 'Fort Ann'?

I got this one, Edwin.

'Cranstonii' is a cultivar of Picea abies. 'Fort Anne' is a cultivar of Picea glauca.

similarities: both have snake-branching form

differences:
Color (Fort Anne is blue, Cranstonii is green).
Texture (Cranstonii has much thicker branching and needles)
Mature size (although they're both tree forms, Fort Anne will get big, Cranstonii will get huge)
Availability (Cranstonii is fairly common in the trade. Fort Anne is a little tougher)

I recommend having both if you have the space because they're both cool. I like all snake-form conifers.

Thanks much. I have a 'Fort Ann' I grafted this winter already growing well in the ground. Looking forward to seeing it get big. I've always admired the 'Cranstonii' at the Harper Collection. Ken has some nice ones, too.
