Disaster At The Schulman Grove

The visitors center at the Schulman Grove, in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mts. of California burned down today. The fire was reported at 8 a.m. -- nobody was inside.

Cause is unknown pending investigation.

That's a great loss of a spectacular conifer resource.

Very sad, glad no-one hurt though. Hope none of the trees were killed, either.

Today's news report says that the destruction was total -- it took 2.5 hrs for firemen to get there -- too late. The boardwalk and three young trees were also consumed. A temporary center will be set up.
