Potted Fig Trees

I haven't had much luck getting figs started in my back yard so I planted two in some large ~20 gal clay pots. One is a Brown Turkey and the other is a LSU purple. I used a mixture of topsoil and organic compost since the pots are so large but it seems to be staying to wet in the pots. The pots have one large hole that is clear for drainage. Several leaves have brown spots that I take to be signs of over watering. I think I need to repot them in a different mixture but what should I be using to get good drainage?

I didn't think but maybe the brown spots are rust. I will try to get some pictures tomorrow.

I don't think you need to repot them, Just stop watering them. Furthermore, it's time for figs to go dormant and they are naturally starting to lose their leaves.

I managed to get a picture today. Is this rust I am dealing with?

I don't think it is, but all you have to do is remove the leaves and dispose of them. Those plants look big enough to go in the ground. If you leave them in those pots, you're going to have one heck of a time root pruning them.
