Mint lowers the number of mosquito bites you get, but ONLY if you crush the leaves and rub them on all the exposed skin. Growing it near your patio doesn't help.

It will temporarily confuse an ant trail if you rub a leaf across the trail, but I have ant colonies in my mint beds.

It works really well to repel spiders, but only on Pinterest. Real spiders aren't repelled.

And mint can root from a sprig that touches ground as well as by runners under ground. Pick a place where you can control the water. It won't spread into dry soil.

The oils from mint have been shown to repel ants when put down over their trails and mosquitoes when rubbed on skin, but ants and spiders have been noted living in beds were mint was growing so the short answer is no.
