Something is chewing the petioles right off my Dï¿½jï¿½ Blu

I have also noticed some white, fuzzy stuff on a lot of flower scapes recently, as well as an obvious moving critter that looked like a sticky white mass. I don't think that the white stuff is on this particular hosta, though. Every day I find more severed leaves. Any idea what is causing this damage and what I need to do to treat it? Thanks for any suggestions!

Yuck!! That picture gives a great visual, LOL. I will look for that saliva-like substance, but I don't think there is any. I am going to take the chewed off leaves, along with the spotty leaves from Elvis Lives, and another issue I am seeing with fuzzy white stuff over to the lab at NCSU later today. Should get some quick answers that way. Thanks for the info, Hostanista, and the suggestion to contact the plant disease lab :)

Ken, some were completely severed and others were really loose barely hanging on. After further investigation I believe I might have crown rot :( I need to dig the hosta up and check the crown.
