Penny, I wouldn't even venture a guess if that's carbon b/c there are so many look alikes for that variety. But with you being in CA I would expect it to be a much darker color anyway, b'c of the higher UV. As for the size of fruits for a variety, that also can vary a lot as well, b'c there arfe many variables that play into that.

And yes, it should be bigger than Green Zebra.

There's just no way to ID a variety with a picture, and yes, I see the tag next to it that says Carbon as well but tags have been known to travel, as it were, and I remember one place where the nursery workers messed up a lot of tags, let alone small humans who are known to move tags around as well.

There are several hundred so called black varieties which I divide into pink /blacks such as Indian Stripe, Cherokee Purple, Black from Tula, etc, that have a clear epidermis and the the red/blacks such as Carbon and Black Krim, etc., that have a yellow epidermis/

Carolyn, thank you for the explanation. It's true that one can't and shouldn't identify a variety by a picture alone. I was just so disappointed at its size and tangy flavor that I was hoping someone can say flat-out it was mislabeled.
