It flipped the breaker. Would it be safe to turn the breaker back on? I don't want to burn my house down, so I was afraid to turn it back on to see if at least the stove top would work.

If it popped, something is seriously wrong.

If it tripped the circuit breaker, it means the stove drew WAYYYYYY to much electricity, and if you reset the breaker it will just trip again, (assuming you don't have a faulty breaker).

Most likely you do not have the DIY skills to open up the stove and look for yourself?

Since you have not mentioned any smells or smoke, more than likely, you would not be able to "Spot or smell" the problem with it.

Sooooo, You will havta go with "Plan B". See who can service it in your area, and check that company out Thoroughly!!!!!!

You could also google your stove model number with
1243_xxx + died, or loud pop, or something similar and see if anybody had a similar problem and what the fix was.

Were you cooking when it happened? Sounds like there could be an internal short to ground. There are a multitude of things that could cause this. You can reset the breaker to see what happens, and maybe try to reproduce the conditions that caused the trip if there were any, but if it trips again I would stop messing with it. If you have to ask where to start, it's probably not a good idea to try and troubleshoot this yourself, so I agree with Gary, call a good technician in your area.

I had this happen a couple of years ago with my Kitchen Aid smooth top. It was an electrical issue in the mother board and cost us about $250 to fix. I hope yours is not the same thing.
