The estimate I got on 5" media filter systems was around $400. That was on the low end, other systems were a lot more espensive.

Goodman & Amana are the same company. The Amana units are nicer with sound deadening and compressor protection electronics on outdoor unit and a better heat exchanger on furnaces. 70K 95% furnace is BIG for a 950 sq ft house. Expect it to be noisy on high fire! I have 60K for 1000 sq ft and have high fire locked out to keep things quiet. Really kills the advantage of 2 stage heat though.

The Yorkie has variable fire, not just 2 levels of heat. Makes for a lot more comfort and a lot of low, quiet run time in cold weather. Definitely a plus!

Based on what baldloonie said above regarding multiple levels of heat in the York mod, and personal bias, I'd choose the York setup if not the Lennox. Ask about the Lennox G71 for something more comparable to the York and better with heating stages. Some people would install Amana/Goodman in their homes, and some are happy with them (though I know some who have had trouble, just like all brands can at times), but I personally would not. I just think you find more quality and often better dealers with the other brands, at a price premium. However the fact that the Goodman dealer did a load calculation is very good, and would almost make me lean toward using this company. Could he perhaps quote a York?

I know.. I'm really torn, I really trust contractor #1...but I think the York is a good deal, but he doesnt' install York.. From all I've read it seems the contractor is more important than the brand...If it comes down to Amana vs. Goodman, and I know they are from the same company..is there really a difference between the two other than the name?
